Elementary Education

Grecia Sorbie is hoping to turn two of her interests into a career by becoming an elementary school teacher in a foreign country.

"I want to teach elementary education in foreign countries so that I can do a job that I love as well as have the experience of traveling and seeing different cultures," Sorbie said.

Sorbie became interested in becoming a teacher while in high school when one of her classes regularly visited elementary schools.

"I enjoyed working with and helping the students," Sorbie said. "Helping out and observing classes definitely moved me in the direction of my future career."

As for the second half of her interest, Sorbie has traveled to Canada and Mexico but has goals of traveling to other countries as soon as she can, especially Spain and Greece.

Her time at Delaware Tech has started to prepare her for her career, especially helping her procrastinate less and balance schoolwork and life.

"It was difficult when I would have a lot of work in all of my classes because I wouldn't have time to go out with friends and family," Sorbie said. "I would also be stressed if I had to work and realized I still have to complete a lot of homework. So now I make sure to keep up with my work by finishing it earlier and making sure I am not doing it all at once."

Sorbie is happy with her decision to enroll at Delaware Tech since it was the best choice financially and because she will be one step closer to her dream career.
